Heroes and their stories make up a large body of literature. From our early childhood we have been enthralled by the adventures of brave souls who have done great deeds. Most times, these folk have been much like us. They lived lives of mundane existence and we can identify with that. But one day, something special happened, one day the adventure began.

So it was with Tolkiens The hobbit, which is a great introduction to the amazing trilogy The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit transports you into the mindset of the rest of Tolkiens works, much as A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man enables you to understand Ulysses, the magnum opus of James Joyce.

As the heroic story begins, there is nothing about the hobbit that would forecast the drama to come. But come it does, with almost too much intensity for the hapless hobbit, or the enchanted reader. There are many adventures on the path, with much testing and challenge. Lady luck intervenes at times, until at last; our hero-in-the-making is confronted with the ultimate encounter, the Dragon. This, the last battle, is neither quick or of certain outcome. The Dragon has fearsome physical and magical powers. Our hero now, for that is what he has become, must bring all his courage, his cunning, his physical and psychic strength to the confrontation.

The struggle is long and arduous. just when it seems that all is lost and the dragon will triumph, the hobbit reaches deep within for one last bit of courage that even he did not know was there. Clutching his sword with a confidence gained from all his previous trials, one last lunge finds a fatal spot, the dragon crashes to earth.

The story would be unsatisfactory if it ended there. The author lets us follow our victorious hero home, to spend his days reflecting on his adventures, with his pipe and contentment. He realizes that the path took him through the dark night of his own inner being. He remembers that guidance was always with him, encircling him like a soft wind.

The heros saga is presented to us often, in ancient as well as modern guise. Whether using sword, Kalishnikoff or light saber, the struggle is the same. Everyone gets a little stiff neck once in a while, and yoga can wipe away the pain with a few concentrated exercises. First, though, you must be certain the pain isn't related to something more serious than a simple stiff neck. Instead of yoga, see a doctor if any one of the following is true:

- You neck pain has persisted for more than three days, or it keeps coming back.

- Your neck pain is accompanied by dizziness or nausea.

- The pain seems to radiate down into your arms or legs.

- The pain began with a fall or accident.

If your stiff neck does NOT meet any of the above conditions, these simple yoga exercises can help increase your neck's flexibility and strengthen the neck muscles. By exercising you speed blood and needed nutrients to the area, easing the neck pain gradually. Try these:

Neck stretches

sitting cross-legged, tall and straight, and inhale eyes forward. Exhale, moving chin to chest. Repeat this breath five times, the fifth time holding chin to chest breathing three times through the nose. Inhale, raising the head to center again. This time drop your right ear to your right shoulder during the exhale. Repeat this breath five times, the fifth time holding ear to shoulder for three breaths. Repeat this sequence with the left ear to left shoulder.

Half-Circle Rolls

Drop your chin to your chest. Slowly roll it up to your right shoulder, down to center, up to the left shoulder and down to center. Repeat this three to five times. Never roll the head in a full circle, as this can cause damage.

Shoulder Hunches

Hunch your shoulders up as high as you can, then relax them completely. Repeat five to six times. Next roll your shoulders in forward circles five to six times, then backward circles five to six times. Notice how relaxed your shoulders feel. Try this quick relaxation exercise any time you feel tension building.

Chest Expander

stand with your feet together and your fingers interlaced behind your back. Inhale while raising your hands behind your back, squeezing your shoulder blades together and tucking your tailbone under to keep from over-arching your back. Hold this position for three to four breaths, then lower your arms slowly during the next exhale.

Arm Lifts

Hold your arms straight out in front of you, parallel to the ground with palms facing each other but not touching. Inhale while bringing them up next to your head. Exhale while you bring them down again. Repeat this four to eight times.

Press It

Place either palm on the back of your head. Simultaneously press the head and hand against each other for a count of ten. Move the palm to the forehead and repeat the pressing for another count of ten. Now place the right palm against the right side of your head and press head and hand together for a count of ten. Repeat with the left palm and left side of the head.

These yoga exercises are designed to relieve physical stress and related pain. The best pain relief is pain prevention, so be sure to watch your posture and set your workspace to avoid slouching.

Here is what you can try.
1.Simply do not use the basic authentication on the proxy server or pick up that phone and activate over the phone. It is automated and should only take about 7 minutes.

A recent study has found that overweight or obesity increases the chances of pregnancy while using birth control pills. Gynecologists say that birth control pills (also known as oral contraceptives) have not enough effect on overweight or obese women. Overweight (BMI 25 to 29.9) women have 60% and obese (BMI 30 or more) women have 70% more chances of pregnancy than normal weight (BMI 18.5 to 24.9) women while taking oral contraceptives regularly. For women who missed oral contraceptive, the risk of pregnancy more than doubled compare to overweight or obese women. Study says that out of hundred overweight women taking the oral contraceptives, five got pregnant while only three out of hundred normal weight women who take oral contraceptives got pregnant each year.

The reason of failure of oral contraceptives is not clearly known. This is a big research area. They said there are several possibilities for failure of oral contraceptives in obese women.

The hormones in oral contraceptives are soluble in fat which is in enough quantity in obese women. Due to this, fat hormones dissolve in fat rather than entering the bloodstream.

Metabolism is also a major cause. The basal metabolic rate increases according to body weight; more the body weight, more basal metabolic rate. The increase in metabolic rate decreases the duration of medication effect. This is the also one of the causes due to which oral contraceptives do not work.

Due to obesity, there is an increase in liver enzymes which help metabolize the hormones in oral contraceptives.

Nowadays the hormones level in oral contraceptives is reduced by five times than first introduced.

Much hype surrounds trendy workout machines, as seen in infomercials. There are so many to pick from, and while the various systems offer different exercises, they all promise the same thing: the body you've always wanted, as well as an overall improved lifestyle.

There's a hurdle to climb, however: some systems may not be practical for the way an individual wants to work out.

Nautilus has been producing Bowflex systems for about 20 years as of this writing, and these systems are extremely popular. They are not cheap, though, so be prepared to part with considerable cash when buying a new machine. While the company has a trial period and will refund your money if you're not satisfied, they won't refund the shipping charges, which can be immense for products the size of exercise machines. So, it can be helpful to try out the product you're interested in, if possible, before buying it.

Is there any merit to a home workout machine? Only if used as directed, as often as specified, and stuck to as a habit. That is what most consumers just won't do. One reason could be that the exercise is never enjoyable or convenient enough to become a likely habit. Another could be laziness. Yet another could be that the equipment is so large and cumbersome that it takes up too much living space, creating resentment, and would actually get more use if the person were to go to the gym to use it.

The Bowflex Revolution works off resistance, so it's not as specific a workout as you would get from free weights, or a machine with a fixed bar.

Revolution is also not meant for tall people. Those over 6' will very likely find it to be too small. There just won't be quite enough extension to do proper leg presses, for example.

There are pros and cons to any equipment, and no product is entirely perfect. The Ab Lounge for example is highly coveted for what it can do for abdominal strengthening, but some people find it to be so comfortable that they end up using it as a chair to watch television from instead of working out. It's good that it's comfortable -- that's the whole point, to make it comfortable to do crunches -- but that comfort may signal to some that they need to kick back instead of work out. So, it's impossible for every machine to be a winner for every person.

The bottom line: do your homework and take opportunities to try out equipment before you buy it. You know yourself better than the infomercial writers do, so do what is best for you and will serve your ultimate fitness goals.

obesity is on the rise for numerous reasons, including but not limited to: lifestyles we work more now than before, mostly office jobs, and there is not a lot of time left over for physical activity; overeating yes, some people are overweight because they eat too much; convenience and fast foods these have more starch, sugar, salt and fat than home made prepared foods; hormones cattle and poultry are raised on steroids and hormones, which when we consume meats we consume these too, and this is relatively new; better health care yes, some diseases that used to kill us now are treatable, but obesity is a potential side effect as well as new medications that werent on the market 15 years ago that cause weight gain as a side effect; and more.

If you are truly interested in battling the bulge obesity is causing in America, I invite you all to quit pointing the finger and laying the blame and saying, Bad fat people! and actually learn about why obesity is an epidemic and what we can do about it.

This is the continuing cycle of unhappiness we can easily observe in some of the rich and famous. The more material a person acquires, the more frustrated he or she becomes with life. complete contentment is free for anyone to choose, but you cannot buy it.

Shibari (.a.k.a. "Japanese bondage" is an ancient, Japanese, integrated concept of body, mind and spirit.

The objective is to unlock erotic energy through trance or trance-like experiences.

trance (a different level of awareness) is being achieved through a refined mix of atmosphere, ritual, meditation, love, techniques and intensity of the situation.

Most forms of oriental lovemaking are hardly ever straightforward sexuality, but an intriquing game of exploration and challenges and a delicate combination of subtlety and expliciteness.

What is trance?

Trance is a situation where one is so dedicated to and concentrated on one specific goal or situation, that - through blocking out everything else - the spiritual capacities of the mind are eniterly dedicated to that specific activity. A combination of endorphins, dopamine (known as "the lover's feel good hormone"), enkapheline and adrenaline releases creates "super awareness" and this is the key factor in creating trance. Since experiences such as fear, anxiety, stress and physical impulses such as pain all cause the release of high doses of adrenaline and subsequently endorphins - these impulses are being used to allow you to climb the first steps of the trance ladder. Endorphins have a "sister-hormone" called enkephaline, which works on the spinal cord in the same way enderphines work on the brain.

Since mood is important atmosphere is important, which is why - in Shibari body mind spirit terms - a lot of emphasys is being placed on preparation and the physical area. For this, such things as candle light, aroma therapy (incense or evaporating essential oils), bathing and other rituals and techniques are used to create "makama" - the "circle" (area), the physical area where both partners will experience their intens lovemaking. There is a widespread misunderstanding: "erogenous zones are directly connected to the genital area and other primary sex-identifying features (such as the breasts)". The interaction between the giver's energy - temporarily stored in the knots - and the pressure points on the Ki meridians in the recipients' body is what will release very powerful sexual and spiritual experiences.

Sexual energy is one of the most powerful manifestations of Ki energy. This is the reason why we still refer to whatever happens between love partners as "the magic", "the spark" or "the energy".

Biggest Loser is one of the most popular reality TV shows aired till now. It was broadcasted on the TV channel NBC in the year 2004. How to Cure a Golf Slice

Every golfer needs to know to cure a golf slice, even if it is only a temporary fix if a slice develops on the course to let you finish your round without too much damage. The reason for this is that every golfer slices the ball at one time or another. Even tiger woods has been known to slice into the trees occasionally.

To be able to fix a slice you have to know the possible causes. The dreaded banana shot happens because you have put a clockwise spin on the ball. This creates a difference in air pressure between the side spinning into the direction travel and the side spinning away from it.

The spin is imparted because your club face is not squared up to direction of your shot at the moment of strike. If your shot is straight to the target, then you will slice the ball if your club face has not had time to be square to the ball. You are not bringing the golf club round quickly enough and the club face is at an angle when it strikes the ball.

This makes it spin clockwise, and curves it round like a banana. Not immediately, because it takes time for the spin to take effect, but it will happen, and once it starts curving the curve quickly becomes more and more pronounced. A counter-clockwise spin would turn into a hook.

You also slice because, although your club face is straight onto the line to the target, your swing is not. You are swinging across the ball from outside to inside the correct line, and again the club face is not square to the direction of swing, and spins the golf ball. There are a few things you can do to put this right.

first, since your sliced ball is landing well to the right of target it might make sense to aim to the left. However, since you are by definition playing a curved shot, you will lose distance because you are not hitting in a straight line. This is not a good way to cure a slice, but if you are on the course it might do until you finish the round and can get expert help.

A better way is to adopt a stronger grip. To do that you simply grip your club exactly as you normally do, address the ball, then before your backswing move your hands clockwise round the shaft. Just a small amount will be enough. Then play your shot. This will make your club face straighten up quicker and you will either slice less or will have cured the slice. If the former, then move your hands round a little bit more on the next shot. Dont overdo it, or you will straighten the club up too early, and will hook the ball.

If you are swinging across the ball then you should move your feet so that they are more in line with the target. If they are already in line, and you still swing across the correct line, then as a temporary measure move your feet round towards right of the target. This will straighten your swing up till you finish the round, but you really need to have your swing analyzed.

There are a few reasons for swinging across the ball, most of them connected with your swing mechanics. You will probably not be able to correct that yourself, though you could try to make sure that you are not over-rotating your shoulders so that they are crossing the line to the target too early. Make sure that your chest does not cross the ball before you hit it, or that you are not hitting down into the ball rather than straight through it.

Any of these can cause your swing to pull to the right while your clubface is straight to the ball. Most of these might need some professional help to put right and if you have tried the quick fixes described above without solving the problem ask your club pro to run an eye over your swing. A professional can often spot the problem without having to use video analysis.

first, however, try the stronger grip and the change of stance on the driving range, and keep making adjustments until you get some results. If you are swinging across the ball a stronger grip will not help, so if doing that makes no difference then you know that your problem lies in your stance or your swing mechanics.

In that case, if a change of stance closer to the target does not help, then you probably need some professional help. Do not despair though. Any slice is curable: it is simply a matter of finding out where your swing is going wrong and adjusting to put it right. Many golfers have given the game up due to their slice, but there is no need for you to do that. Just take this advice on how to cure a golf slice and you will be back to your normal good game in virtually no time.

No matter where you look today, you will find or see something to do with fat loss or diets. The mass majority of them will either say all or high protein and no carbohydrates or just the opposite. I have tried to diet with both of these concepts.

The protein diet for fat loss. I must say it was the fastest way for me to drop 30 pounds. I did it in 30 days. I eat nothing but meats, fish, nuts and very little amounts of vegetables and fruits. I held my carbs to less than 25 grams a day. I also held my calorie intake to 1200 a day or less. And most days it was under that. This will put your body in to a state of ketosis. This forces your body to burn your fat. It has no carbohydrates to use for fuel. For me the side effect of this diet was constipation. Not a very pleasant thing at all.

After dropping all of my weight I began to eat as I did before going on the protein only diet. Needless to say I gained all of my weight back and then some.

Next I thought I would give the no fat Fat loss diet a try. So basically I ate everything that had no fat to it. now here is were it can get very interesting. If you eat allot of grains or grain products, like breads, sugar rich foods you will lose nothing and probably gain allot of weight. I could not loss any weight at all till I started to eat only fruits and vegetables. Here again I had to eat only a small amount to lose any weight at all. I will say to I did not lose the weight I lost on the protein diet. I tired of it very quickly and gave up on it. I will also say with both diets I was on I did not exercise at all.

Still looking for that magic bullet I ran across a diet that will let you eat both carbs and protein. The best of both worlds so to speak. now there are curtain foods that you should stay away from, like refined grain products, breads crackers and that kind of foods. anything with sugar it it also. now you can eat meats, fish and proteins. Also carbohydrates like most vegetables and fruits. All of the allowed fruits and vegetables are high in fiber to help keep you feeling full longer. I am just now giving this diet a try. In about a week I did lose 4 pounds. It is not as fast as the protein diet but I think it is allot healthier.

I think one of the most important things you must do in order for any diet to work is that you have to be in the right mind set. Also no matter what you are eating you can not over eat anything. Face it! dieting is nothing but a numbers game. You must take in less calories than you are burning to lose any weight.

Lets look at more solutions, which Yoga can give you, for anxiety and stress management. All of these solutions will take a bit of practice, and in some cases, you may need the guidance of a competent Yoga teacher.

After Pranayama (Yogic breathing techniques), there are still a large number of techniques to choose from. The next one that comes to mind is Asana (Yoga Posture). In a typical hatha Yoga class, you will learn Asana on a mat, but you can learn to practice good posture all day long.

You can practice good posture in a chair, when eating a meal, standing, and walking. You can even use pillows to sleep in good posture. most people prefer to multi-task these days, so Yogic walking is a wonderful way for those of us, who just have to do many things at once. This is not to be confused with walking meditation, which is an entirely different technique.

Put on good walking shoes, comfortable clothes, and begin to walk your course. Always watch the road, but keep your spine straight, and your gaze should be at eye level, while you visually take in the world around you. Close your mouth and breathe only through the nose. breathe naturally, and do not force your inhales or exhales.

As you continue to walk, maintain your personal pace, and be mindful of your posture. The recommended time for Yogic walking is, at least, 20 minutes. Once breathing is natural, and not strained, some practitioners of this method practice walking meditation or silent japa (Prayers).

This is a complete mental, physical, and spiritual practice, but you must pick a safe course and be ready to react to traffic, animals, and other pedestrians. Just because you meditate, or practice japa, is not a reason to ignore people who wave or say hello.

Some people carry dog snacks for dogs and squirrels - while others may stop and chat to friends in the park. To accept life, people, animals, and the changes around us, without judging everything, is a treasure of life. If you can avoid judging everything, while you go for your walks, your health will change for the best in a multitude of ways.

Yogic walking is good aerobic exercise and prevents many diseases, anxiety, and depression. Your heart, vital organs, bones, joints, connective tissue, and muscles will benefit from Yogic walking. You may control, or lose weight, by practicing Yogic walking.

Maybe you were only looking to reduce your anxiety levels, but you are now convinced that Yogic walking is the way to go. Talk to your physician and get advice, which is specific to your body. choose your course wisely and have fun.

Football? Sure. Baseball? Yep. Cycling? Definitely. Track & Field? No question. But golf? Thats the question now that the PGA tour will begin implementation of their own anti-doping plan in 2008 as part of an overall world golf Foundation policy.

The world golf Foundation not only includes the PGA tour but also the European tour, LPGA, the USGA, augusta National and the royal and Ancient golf club. With the Asian, Canadian, Japanese and Australasian Tours all signing on to support the plan, weve essentially got an anti-doping plan that reaches every corner of the globe.

PGA Commissioner Tim Finchem had long held fast to the belief that there was no need for anti-doping intervention but has changed his position during this past year. Said Finchem earlier this year theres no sport thats inherently immune to doping. Its a sad commentary, but its true.

Is it true? And is it really necessary? golf has always been looked on as a gentlemans game, one equated to honesty, integrity and good sportsmanship where players self-police and in many instances, call penalties on themselves for unseen infractions. But times apparently are a changing!!

Is this merely a sign of the times, a preemptive strike to keep up with the policies of other professional sports or is there some evidence of cheating that the PGA is hiding from us? Is there a potential Barry Bonds-like abuser lurking on the PGAs leader board? The only player as beefy as a steroid popping ball player is Tiger woods yet hes also the most vocal proponent of this anti-doping plan and has publicly volunteered to be first in line for testing.

I cant think of another player out there who looks or golfs the part of a doping violator. The guys that hit it 300 yards seem to have reached this mark via advanced technology (i.e. Hotter club faces & balls) mixed in with a bit of exercise but even assuming there is substance abuse on tour, you still have to hit the ball straight! And once the driver is in the bag, players dont really need muscle, they need technique. They need to hit a wedge 100 yards to a tightly tucked pin location and Im not sure theres a drug out there that can help with this. And just how will any banned substance help a professional read and sink a 15 foot putt with a double break in it?

The illegal substances that generally get all the attention are the muscle pumping, strength inducing drugs so prevalent among the Popeye forearmed baseball players of recent years but what about some of the other prohibited substances on the list for testing? The list includes everything from anabolic steroids and hormones to beta-blockers. Now I can see how beta-blockers may be of help to a PGA tour professional as they basically block the affect adrenalin has on your body. In other words they make you relax! Additionally they facilitate smooth muscle control which explains their prevalence as being a treatment for various heart ailments including cardiac arrhythmias and heart attacks (prevention post-attack).

woods recently reminded reporters that Nick Price once admitted to using beta blockers but said they actually hurt his game rather than help but drugs have varying effects on people so whos to say it wont help the next guy? A few beers usually help calm me down but it certainly doesnt seem to help my game any! Its not farfetched to think that beta-blockers may help someone down the road.

Its better to be proactive rather than reactive so Finchems making the right call here but Im betting on betting on the players and believe golf will not be shamed and dragged into the mud like so many other sports these day.

You tend to have sudden outbursts, be violent, over- react over petty things and generally be angry most of the time. You may not be aware but you might actually have anger management issues.

We act and communicate our anger differently. This emotion is usually triggered by something that does not confine with what we think is right and pleasing. It is something unpredictable. When something in our environment irritates us, the mind tells the body to react in a certain way.

People have different levels of tolerance. Some tend to be more capable of containing their feelings or express their anger more constructively than others. There are some who have rather poor ability of releasing their anger. These are individuals who have control issues over their emotions.

For people with this problem, they have the tendency to act with such intensity that they hurt themselves and others. They are often overwhelmed with the need to be with such aggression in releasing their anger. Violent tendency comes naturally when a certain environment appears to be provoking them. It is okay to be angry as long as you can handle it well, as long as it does not become destructive. after all, we are human beings. But when it actually creates a problem, then we should come up with ways to manage our anger.

There are several forms of anger management. The most common form is through relaxation. This is through doing away with intense emotions and letting yourself be in an environment where you could least likely be angry. It could be through unwinding, being involved in physical activities that prove soothing for you such as yoga or meditation. It could also be just by letting go of any negative feeling within you.

For more complex conditions such as when anger already causes psychological problems among others, a more scientific approach could be used. This is through seeking professional help. did you watch the super Bowl? I slept through the third quarter because there is switch in this old mans body that turns to OFF and there is nothing in Gods Universe that can take it off automatic. So I sleep for part of all football games. I just can't get that switch set to halftime.

I also miss part of each game because I read while Im watching the game. If not reading, Im doing a logic puzzle. If not reading or doing a puzzle, Im out in the kitchen brewing something up. So I never see all of a football game. not even the super bowl, the football game of all football games.

Despite my inattention, yesterdays football game was to my liking. Too often the super bowl turn into a rout. But this was a match of endurance and strength and the steelers pulled off a great victory.

Ladies are at a disadvantage when it comes to putting together a set of golf clubs that fits them well and from which they can get the most out of their games. The reason is that there are few choices in normal off-the-shelf ladies golf clubs. With typically less than 10% of sales for a golf club company coming from ladies golf clubs, there are simply few choices in club styles, shaft flex, swing weights, or lofts normally available in most golf shops. Fairway woods are critical clubs for women or men with slower golf swings. If your swing speed is in the 60MPH range, you should start your fairway woods with a 5 wood and leave out the 3 wood. Your other woods would then probably need to be a 9 and 13 wood. The reason for skipping an odd numbered wood is because you wont be hitting the ball that much farther with a 5 wood than you will with a 7 wood, for example. In other words the gap in distance between the two clubs is not enough to justify carrying the other club. Regarding club length, there should be at least a one inch difference for each odd numbered club. That is, the 7 wood should be one inch shorter than the 5 wood, and the 9 wood should be 2 inches shorter than the 5 wood, for example.

For women who swing 70 MPH or greater, a 3 wood could be a good choice, but it should have at least a 16 degree loft in order to keep the ball in the air longer. This group of golfers can justify having every other odd number wood in their bags, such as 3, 5, 7 and 9 woods, for example.

David Stern the commissioner of the nba wants to impose a Dress code on the Players. A Dress code for a sport that is played in Shorts and tank tops. Will this Dress code Backfire on commissioner Stern.

David Stern wants to upgrade the image of the nba by imposing a "Corporate Dress code" on nba Players. Currently nba Players can wear anything they want in public. If David Stern has his way the players will be required to wear Slacks, Collared Shirts and sports Jackets.

How is a Dress code going to change the quality of the games played on the hardwood. David Stern is under pressure to change the public image of the league in the Wake of the "Rumble in Detroit". Somehow he thinks that by requiring players to be more GQ in public this will help the public relations.

The GQ effect could backfire badly. Many basketball fans (The Average man and women on the street) are priced out of going to basketball games. They resent all the corporations with the luxury boxes and court side seats. Requiring the ball players to be more GQ may just put these fans over the edge and convince them that basketball is only a game for the corporate elite.

Sure you may get more money for the luxury boxes at the cost of TV Viewer ship and the revenue that goes with those TV packages. David Stern be careful what you ask for?
